More race days possible

The Del Mar Fairgrounds is taking legislative action to allow a possible increase in the number of racing days at Del Mar in anticipation of the possible closure of Los Angeles-area racetrack Hollywood Park in the coming years.

A welcome to summer

The Del Mar Village Association, with the assistance of the city of Del Mar, hosted their annual Summer Solstice celebration on June 19 on the lawn at Powerhouse Park. The event featured food, wine and ale tasting with a live and silent auction. Proceeds benefit downtown revitalization in Del Mar.

Eagles’ two-sports star looks to duplicate feat at Davis

Never mind that former Santa Fe Christian two-sport standout Corbin Cutshaw hasn’t played a single down or had an official at-bat since graduating from the perennial small-school power more than a year ago.

Torrey’s Vance earns player of the year honors

His early two Academy award nominations in 2006 for Best Director and Best Screenplay for “The Sixth Sense” created positive buzz about the filmmaker. However, with every additional movie ending up as a cookie-cutter with the same theme – be afraid of “something” – only with different icing, respect for Shyamalan’s storytelling is dwindling.

While many people consider the 1993 movie “Groundhog Day” to be little more than another sample of Bill Murray’s comedic talent, Paul Hannam is among those who looked past the film’s humor to find deeper meaning.
