More outdoor cafes OK’d

Despite some resident concerns that an already parking-constrained city might become even more so by allowing more restaurant seating without a corresponding amount of parking, the Del Mar City Council has nonetheless approved loosening restrictions on outdoor cafes downtown.

Del Mar resident diagnosed with West Nile virus

The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency has confirmed that a 58-year-old Del Mar woman has been infected with the West Nile virus. That brings the total of confirmed human cases in the county this year to three, including a 38-year-old Carlsbad woman and a 24-year-old San Diego man.

New Del Mar Times Web site more usable

The Del Mar Times launched its new Web site on Wednesday, July 30.

The new site, which is at the same Web address that the Del Mar Times has used in the past, now boasts video and photo galleries, fully searchable online classifieds, and lots of breaking news.

Trainer Sise living his lifelong dream

As a child, trainer Clifford Sise spent summers with his family, vacationing in a trailer park on the ocean in what is now the parking lot at Cardiff State Beach and going to the races in the afternoon.

The struggles of public transportation

Strides made in fire safety

Last year we received a reminder of the destructive potential of wildfire and evidence that the City of Del Mar is not immune from such a threat. We have worked to improve fire safety in the city on an ongoing basis. Since October of 2007 the City Council has worked closely with the fire department to reduce the potential of fire having an adverse effect on our city. The result has been a multi-faceted approach to community fire safety.

Supervisors hearing to discuss fire agency, parcel tax

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors will hold a hearing to determine whether voters should decide in November on the creation of a regional fire protection agency and a parcel tax to support it.

Energy woes don’t slow Surf Cup’s widespread appeal

The 28th Surf Cup dominated the San Diego Polo Fields for the weekend, with soccer action stretching impressively across the spread of soft grass, a total of 20 soccer pitches fitting comfortably onto the fields. The furthest out fields were lined up right next door to some polo ponies chilling out in their stables.
