New executive editor for papers

Kathy Day, a veteran journalist, has been named executive editor of the Del Mar Times, Solana Beach Sun, Rancho Santa Fe Record and Carmel Valley Leader.

She’ll be overseeing the news staff and working to strengthen the community’s news and feature reports.

“We are delighted to welcome Kathy to our newspapers,” said publisher Phyllis Pfeiffer. “Her writing and editing experience as well as her understanding of the inner-workings of our communities will enhance our news coverage.”

Day replaces Cyrus-Jones-Kellett, who left to pursue his career as a writer.

Day brings more than 20 years of news experience and as well as background in public relations to her new post. Most recently she was an assistant managing editor at the North County Times, where here responsibilities over the past six years included working with the business, sports, coastal news, feature and photo staffs as well handling newsroom operations.

She has also worked as a reporter at the San Diego Daily Transcript, covering biotechnology and high technology, and was city editor at the Daily Herald in Everett, Wash.

A graduate of Cal State Long Beach, she resides in Scripps Ranch with her husband, Bob, and daughter, Audrey.
