Event benefits childhood cancer foundation
Casa Blanca Salon and Day Spa in Rancho Santa Fe will be hosting a fundraising event this Wednesday, Sept. 24, to benefit the Magic Water Foundation.
The Magic Water Project was founded by a group of local parents whose children are facing pediatric cancers. A founding family from Carmel Valley, Melissa and Andy Mikulak, just lost their seven-year-old son Max on Aug. 31 after a four-year battle with a form of childhood cancer called nueroblastoma.
“They want to raise as much money as possible,” said Marcina Checketts, Casa Blanca owner. “They don’t want any other families to have to go through this.”
The event at Casa Blanca will be held from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with something for everyone in the family.
Kids can enjoy a trip to the “Berry Bar” to create their own Sugar Scrub Sundae or indulge in a sparkle manicure. For the more adventurous ones, there will be a special meet and greet with the San Diego Police Department’s S.W.A.T. Team to tour the brand new Bearcat Armored Rescue Vehicle.
Checketts’ daughter Kendra, will also be hosting her Famous Lemonade Stand – her charity beverages have raised funds for various organizations such as Casa de Amparo and PC Pals.
“My friend Max is a hero and my inspiration, please help us raise money to find a cure,” said Kendra who is a fourth grader at Solana Highlands.
For adults, there will be a mojito bar as well as demonstrations of various spa treatments. A percentage of all procedures scheduled at the event will go toward Magic Water.
There will also be an opportunity drawing with items up for grabs like an autographed Tony Hawk skateboard deck, a tour of the Del Mar Lifeguard Tower, a ride for 12 kids in the Del Mar Rough Water Rescue Boat, rock climbing, Padres tickets and more.
