Azul makeover in works

Hard Rock replacement pending

Azul La Jolla is getting a facelift, a new menu, and a new name: The Steakhouse at Azul.
A part of the Brigantine family of restaurants in San Diego, Azul La Jolla has featured California cuisine. Pat Walsh is the owner.

“The (new) concept is going to be a high-end steakhouse,” said Deborah Horger, sales marketing director for the Brigantine. “We’re going to have very local vegetables and other ingredients, as well as seafood and poultry.”

About the cuts of beef at the new Azul, Horger said they would all be prime. “We should even have some cuts that are even better than that,” she said.

Known for its outdoor patio and private wine room, Azul will also have a new concept for its lounge and courtyard, which seats 60.

“It will be a much more casual concept,” noted Horger, adding the new image is meant to appeal to everyone. “We’re hoping it will be something familiar to locals that they’re very comfortable with, but also be what tourists flock to.”

The new look for Azul is expected to be unveiled in mid-November, she said.

- In other business developments in La Jolla’s downtown Village, Hard Rock Cafe on Prospect Street has closed, with details about a prospective restaurant, a San Diego concern, pending.
- Meanwhile, New York City-based Brooks Brothers, the oldest surviving men’s clothier in the United States featuring business and casual clothing for men and women, is scheduled to move into the Sak’s building sometime in November.
