Sheriff’s office targets under age alcohol sales

On Nov. 26, Encinitas Sheriff’s Deputies from the COPPS unit in Encinitas conducted a minor decoy and shoulder tap operation at various “off-sale beer and wine” retail establishments in Del Mar, Solana Beach and Encinitas.

The operation targeted clerks who sell alcoholic beverages to persons under the age of 21. The operation also targeted patrons of those retail establishments who agreed to purchase alcoholic beverages for decoys who identified themselves as being under age.

An arrest was made at Del Mar Liquor Store, located at 1149 Camino Del Mar in the city of Del Mar.

A total of six arrests were made at 7-11 retail stores located at 1446 Encinitas Blvd., 105 West D St. and 102 Leucadia Blvd.

Numerous grocery and convenience stores, as well as various liquor stores, were targeted in the operation. All persons arrested were issued a citation and released at the scene, with the exception of one arrest for drunk in public.
