Dreaming of a rainy Christmas

If you’re dreaming of a white – I mean a wet Christmas, then you’re in luck.

The latest in a spate of wintry storms is due to soak the San Diego region Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning, bringing periods of heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.

The federal agency has issued a flash-flood watch for the period. The downpours may prove intense enough to inundate low-lying and recently burned locales and are likely to melt some of the snow banks that have accumulated in the East County highlands over the last 10 days.

In addition, a high-wind watch will go into effect Christmas Day for local mountain and desert areas, the NWS advised.

The cloudbursts should taper off over the afternoon Thursday.

More than 3 inches of rain has fallen at Lindbergh Field since July 1, and the approaching Yuletide storm should put the city well ahead of its normal rainfall total for this time of year, according to forecasters.
