Storms expected to pound county

A series of storms was expected to begin pounding San Diego County with rain and snow later Friday.

The unsettled weather will last through early next week, according the National Weather Service.

The first storm will hit later today into Saturday and is likely to drop about a quarter to half-an-inch of rain in coastal and valley areas and up to an inch in the mountains and deserts, the agency reported.

It is also likely to cause up to 2 inches of snow to accumulate in the mountains above 4,000 feet, according to the weather service.

Another storm expected to hit Sunday into Monday has the potential to bring more heavy showers, though forecasters said the exact strength and timing of the system remains uncertain.

A third storm will linger into Tuesday but should be weaker than the first two, according to the Weather Service.

Strong winds are expected to accompany all three storms, mainly in the mountains and deserts, forecasters said.

Friday’s forecast calls for wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour in the mountains.
