Sockers seek new fight song

The San Diego Sockers are calling on soccer fans to create a new fight song for the team. Song submissions are due by March 15 and the winning song will be announced soon after.
The song will be used during the Sockers’ 2009 and ’10 home games at the renovated Del Mar Arena.

“The Sockers have had a long history in San Diego, and we wanted San Diegans to have the opportunity to cheer their home team every game with a home-grown song,” Phil Salvagio, head coach of the San Diego Sockers, said in a news release.

The competition is open to anyone and free to enter. Songs can be submitted in writing via CD, e-mail or paper or posted on YouTube. The winner will be awarded $500, two season passes and two replica jerseys.

Submissions should be sent to: San Diego Sockers Inc., Attn: Anthem Contest, 3250 Grey Hawk Court, Carlsbad, CA 92010, or e-mailed to marketing@sdsockers.com. For more information on contest rules, visit www.sdsockers.com or call (866) 799-GOAL (4625).

  • Emotions tugged, tested in new Globe comedy about loss, Be a Good Little Widow
Bekah Brunstetter’s “Be a Good Little Widow” at The Old Globe is an interesting juxtaposition of happy and sad, reality and romanticism. The dialogue sometimes comes off as stilted, and I often felt that Melody’s character seemed very immature. However, the cast as a whole is terrific, and Hal Brooks’ direction centers the story well between the bookends of […]
