Surf movie makes world premiere in Solana Beach

“On A Rail: Europe,” a surf movie by Solana Beach resident Tim Ryan, will premiere at Tidewater Tavern at 8 p.m. April 2.

A Tar Productions project, “On a Rail: Europe” follows three surfers, Dylan Graves, Blake Jones and Dane Ward, as they travel by train through Portugal, Spain, France and Scotland to ride powerful waves and experience different cultures.

Red Shoe Ball to benefit Ronald McDonald House

Put on your favorite pair of shoes for the Fourth Annual Red Shoe Ball, which is being held from 6 to 10 p.m. April 25 at the new Ronald McDonald House for San Diego located at 2929 Children’s Way. Net proceeds benefit families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

Locals take part in international pet adoption

The Friends of the Humane Society de Tijuana (FTJHS) hosted an adoption event in Solana Beach on Saturday, March 28. They were hoping to find homes for the animals and to raise awareness about animal health. The event was attended by representatives of the Tijuana Humane Society (TJHS) and was held at Muttropolis.

Padres player hosts ‘Celebrity Bowling Bash’

Padres All Star first baseman and native San Diegan, Adrian Gonzalez, is the hosting the Celebrity Bowling Bash as he looks to raise awareness and aid to the Adrian and Betsy Gonzalez Foundation.

The foundation, established in 2008, was formed to empower underprivileged youth in three tiers; athletics, education and health. While each event focuses its support on a different tier, this bowling event will strengthen the “athletics” side as it supports San Pasqual Academy, a first-in-the-nation residential education campus designed specifically for foster teens here in San Diego.

Curfew laws in effect for spring break

San Diego Police Department is reminding parents that the curfew laws are in effect and officers will look for youth violating those laws during spring break, April 4 – 12.

The curfew within the city of San Diego is from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next day for individuals under the age of 18. The law is slightly different, for example, in the city of Poway where their curfew begins at 11 p.m. Even though you may be a resident of another jurisdiction, if you are a juvenile within the San Diego city limits the 10 p.m. the curfew law applies.

Chargers announce preseason schedule

For the fourth-consecutive season, the Chargers will open their preseason schedule at home when the Seattle Seahawks come to San Diego in mid-August to kick off the ’09 slate. The Chargers will wrap up their preseason schedule at home as well against running back Frank Gore and Head Coach Mike Singletary’s San Francisco 49ers.

New institute to use wireless technology in healthcare

Gary and Mary West Foundation, Scripps Health and Qualcomm on Monday announced formation of the West Wireless Health Institute, one of world’s first medical research organizations dedicated to advancing health and well-being through the use of wireless technologies.
