SD County gas price resumes decline

The average price for a gallon of self-serve unleaded regular gasoline in San Diego County resumed its decline Monday, falling a half-cent to $2.243.

The average price had fallen 10 consecutive days before rising three-tenths of a cent Sunday. It has fallen 6.7 cents over the past 11 days because of lower demand, according to Automobile Club of Southern California spokesman Jeff Spring.

The average price is 2.9 cents less than a week ago, $1.249 less than at this time last year and $2.387 less than the record high of $4.63 set on June 19, but 12.8 cents more than a month ago, according to figures from AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

The national average price of a gallon of unleaded self-serve regular gasoline increased for the fourth consecutive day after an 11-day streak of falling prices, rising 1.1 cents to $1.932, 2.2 cents more than a week ago and 7.7 cents more than last month, but $1.234 less than this time last year and $2.182 less than the record high of $4.114 set July 17.

The national average price has risen five cents over the past four days, including 1.8 cents Sunday.

California’s gasoline prices are typically higher than the national average and among the highest in the nation because of taxes and a state law mandating a special blend of fuel to reduce polluting emissions.
