Elected Officials: Community safety focus of meetings

It’s a privilege to be working with so many of you, especially during such busy and challenging times, to protect and improve our quality of life.
The recent jet crash in University City was a devastating tragedy. On Dec. 11, and again on Jan. 22, our office coordinated with the community, police, the Marines and federal agencies to hold a forum where over 200 hundred participated. Last month there were two home invasions in Carmel Valley. Our office partnered with neighbors and police on Feb. 18 to share ideas for improving safety. We are also working with the police and residents to establish more Carmel Valley Neighborhood Watch groups.
Yesterday, Carmel Valley residents hosted a meeting at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center to continue working on neighborhood safety.
This past Friday, Governor Schwarzenegger declared a statewide state of emergency due to drought that will require a 20 percent reduction in water usage statewide. Mayor Sanders has been working since last summer to prepare for this. I look forward to hearing from you about how to allocate our water to meet the overall City goal of a 20 percent reduction in usage.
The City Council is gathering public input on balancing the budget.
