Juneja honored for research

Vikram Juneja has become the first UCSD student to be named a Churchill Scholar, an award honoring undergraduates for academic achievements and abilities in sciences, engineering or math shown through their research.

A UTC area resident, he said he plans to use his $50,000 award to attend a one-year graduate program at Cambridge University where he will work on a master’s on cancer stem cell research. After that, he plans to begin a doctoral program in bioengineering.
Juneja is one of 14 to receive the award this year, out of 99 applicants. Eight previous recipients went on to win Nobel Prizes.

During this year he has worked 30 hours a week in the lab at the UCSD School of Medicine while carrying a full class load.
