Local food and dining bites

FOX Sports Grill opens
The FOX Sports Grill, which is located directly across from Petco Park, is now open.

Executive chef Christian Hunter puts his twist on American cuisine classics – dishes such as filet mignon chili; prime rib french dip; chicken, shrimp and andouille jambalaya; banana bread pudding and four-layer chocolate cake smothered in chocolate cream cheese icing and served with cream Anglaise.

The cocktail menu overflows with Slam Dunk Martinis, Major League Margaritas and beer cocktails. Lunch specials – such as a fajita chicken wrap – are offered during the week from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

FOX Sports Grill is located on the ground level of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront at One Park Blvd.

Indoor and outdoor seating with views of the San Diego Bay are available.

The restaurant is open: 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Happy Hour: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Reverse Happy Hour: 10 p.m. to midnight Monday through Friday.

Whole Foods to host benefit
Whole Foods Market will host “Beautiful Things: Artists Making a Difference” for the Whole Planet Foundation from 6 to 9 p.m. March 28 at The Loft at UCSD.

The benefit will include an art auction, live music and dance performances. Admission is $15, and proceeds will be donated to the cause.

Whole Planet Foundation creates economic partnerships through microcredit with the poor in communities that supply Whole Foods Market stores with products. The focus is on the developing world.

Prices slashed for chef’s event
Tickets to the 13th annual Meet the Chef’s of Del Mar, which takes place on April 26 at the Hilton Del Mar, have been lowered in light of the current economy. The event costs $100 or $150 for VIP, which grants attendees exclusive wine pairings, cooking demos and a special drawing. Approximately 15 Del Mar restaurants will take part in the event, which benefits Casa de Amparo.

For more information, call (760) 754-5500, ext. 28, or visit casadeamparo.org.
