‘Mousse sidelined

The Pamplemousse, who was a favorite for the Santa Anita Derby, was unable to compete in the April 4 race due to a lesion in his left front tendon. The 3-year-old colt will need six months to a year off to heal, taking him out of the running for this May’s Kentucky Derby.

“What’s best for the horse is our biggest concern,” said Jeffrey Strauss, who co-owns The Pamplemousse with his brother, Bill Strauss, Alex Solis II and two others. “That’s giving him time off, treatment and keeping a close eye on him. We’re not going to rush it.”
Once fully recovered, trainer Julio Canani and Solis believe The Pamplemousse will be back to run again.
