Museum to celebrate first anniversary

The New Children’s Museum will celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of its new home in downtown San Diego’s Marina District with two events:

“I Heart NCM: First Anniversary Family Fundraiser”
4:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 3

Featuring performances, studio activities and menu items that appeal to the child in everyone.

Guests will enjoy Legway Races, an art-filled obstacle course, kid- (and adult-) friendly food sponsored by Wild Thyme Co. and special performances featuring the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts Musical Theater Department.

Proceeds will be used to fund supplies for the Paint and Clay studio, which is home to the Painted Bug, a 1973 VW that serves as a makeshift canvas that children can paint.
Suggested donations for “I Heart NCM” are $50 adults and $25 per child.

“I Heart NCM: First Anniversary Community Celebration”
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 10

Admission can only be guaranteed for visitors in line by 3 p.m.

Sponsored by Target, the free day allows all children and families in the community to enjoy the museum.

Anniversary activities include an Xtreme Fun Dance Party and performances by the San Diego Youth Symphony, Oak Park Percussion Group and The Paul Green School of Rock Music Band.

  • Emotions tugged, tested in new Globe comedy about loss, Be a Good Little Widow
Bekah Brunstetter’s “Be a Good Little Widow” at The Old Globe is an interesting juxtaposition of happy and sad, reality and romanticism. The dialogue sometimes comes off as stilted, and I often felt that Melody’s character seemed very immature. However, the cast as a whole is terrific, and Hal Brooks’ direction centers the story well between the bookends of […]
