Pilates evolves in SB, LJ

Two new fitness studios, Sculpt Pilates Plus and Pilates Plus La Jolla, both featuring SPX workout apparatuses, recently opened in Solana Beach and La Jolla.

The SPX workout is a 40-minute routine on a machine that is inspired by cardio, weight training and Pilates and was developed by Los Angeles-based personal trainer Sebastien Lagree.

Lagree opened his first Pilates studio in September 2001. Since then, Pilates Plus has expanded to 10 locations, including Hong Kong and Dublin and along the California coast.

Lagree currently trains celebrities, including Nicole Kidman and Ben Stiller, and instructors at the Pilates Plus L.A. headquarters. He plans to also open studios in New York, Vancouver, Miami, Paris, Zurich and Singapore.

The workout is offered at $199 a month for unlimited access. Classes officially started on April 6. Sculpt Pilates Plus is located at 437 S. Highway 101, Suite 201 in Solana Beach.

Pilates Plus La Jolla is located at 7726 Fay Ave.
