Sidewalk cafe construction progresses

Construction of the sidewalk cafes in front of Americana Restaurant and Jimmy O’s is under way and expected to be completed by June 1.

Existing structures between the Stratford building and the edge of the sidewalk will be replaced with improved seating, landscaping and benches. Both restaurants are open during construction. For now, pedestrians must use the opposite side of the street to continue along 15th Street.

However, the contractor expects the sidewalk portion of the project to reopen in about a month, said David Scherer, director of public works. Construction of sidewalk cafes in front of Sbicca and Del Mar Pizza is expected to begin soon. T

hose two projects are not as extensive, and are also expected to be completed by June 1. Sidewalk cafes are also on the way for Crepes & Corks and En Fuego on Camino Del Mar, but will require only minor improvements.
