Birch to offer snorkeling tours starting in June

Schooling leopard sharks, rays, garibaldi, lobsters and octopus are among the huge variety of sea life off La Jolla that naturalists from the Birch Aquarium will show off during guided snorkeling tours this summer, the aquarium announced today.

“Snorkel with Sharks” tours will run on random days from June 28 to Sept. 19, taking advantage of the arrival every summer of hundreds of harmless leopard sharks that school in the shallow waters off La Jolla Shores.

Naturalists from the Birch Aquarium will also guide snorkeling tours at La Jolla Cove on June 13, July 5 and Aug. 1 to explore the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park and Ecological Reserve.

The tours run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and cost $30. Participants must be 10 or older and possess an intermediate swimming ability.
