Voter registration deadline today

Monday is the deadline for San Diego County residents to register to take part in the May 19 statewide special election.

Residents need to register if they have not already done so, or if they have recently moved or changed their names, according to San Diego County Registrar of Voters Deborah Seiler.

Forms are available on the registrar’s Web site at www.sdvote.com, at the Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa, post offices, public libraries, city clerk’s offices and Department of Motor Vehicles locations.

The Registrar of Voters will be open until 9 p.m. to accept registration forms. All forms must be postmarked by Monday, May 4.

The last day to request a mail ballot for the statewide special election is Tuesday, May 12, according to the registrar’s office.

The May 19 special election ballot features six initiatives proposed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Legislature that would change the budget process.
