Vehicle overturns on SR 56

Two people suffered major injuries early Monday morning when a vehicle that had overturned on state Route 56 was struck by another vehicle, authorities said.

The crash on the westbound side of the highway, just west of Carmel Valley Road, was reported at 1:49 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Two people were taken by ambulance to Scripps Memorial Hospital, a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher said.

Both the CHP and the dispatcher described the injuries as “major.” No other details were immediately reported.
