Del Mar sunglass store robbed
An armed man with paint on his clothes robbed a sunglass store in Del Mar but no one was hurt, authorities said.
The robbery at The Sunglass Hut at 1555 Camino Del Mar was reported around 3:15 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego County sheriff’s Sgt. Jack Reynolds.
The robber walked around the store as if he were shopping, then approached a cashier sitting behind a desk, he said, adding that the man then lifted his sweatshirt to reveal a handgun in his waistband and ordered the employee to open a cash register.
The cashier complied and was then ordered to get on the ground and to count to 400 before getting up, according to the sergeant.
The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and ran out the store, Reynolds said.
He was described as Latino, 20-25 years old, 5 feet 11 and 180 pounds. The employee said the thief spoke with a slight Spanish accent and had paint all over his clothes, as if he were a painter, according to Reynolds.
He was last seen wearing a black baseball hat, dark red hooded sweatshirt, baggy blue jeans, a light-colored T-shirt and sunglasses.
