‘Friends’ to hold fundraiser for lifeguard tower

The Friends of the Powerhouse and City of Del Mar Lifeguards are holding a “Party for the Tower,” a fundraising event on Aug. 5 at En Fuego in Del Mar to raise money for a new lifeguard tower. The tower is to be placed at the 17th Street beach in Del Mar.

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club President Joe Harper will be the master of ceremonies and will auction off a range of items including Padres tickets with a dinner package, a Del Mar Thoroughbred Club lunch in the Director’s Dining Room and a rental of the Powerhouse.

“The outpouring of support from the community has been phenomenal with over $200,000 raised through various local events and tile painting activities … we are moving into the next stage of fundraising and hoping to be heading for construction soon,” said Jill Coughlin, chair of the event.

The event will start at 6 p.m. En Fuego is located at 1342 Camino Del Mar. Public parking is available at City Hall on Camino Del Mar between 10th and 11th street. Valet parking is available in front of Bully’s at 1404 Camino Del Mar.

Tickets are available by contacting Friends of the Powerhouse at 755-1641. Tickets are limited and are $45 each. They are also tax deductible. For more information visit www.friendsofthepowerhouse.org.
