SD Surf Soccer wins several team titles at Cup tourney
The 29th annual Surf Cup tournament came to the San Diego Polo Club last week, filling the fields with soccer action by the best teams from all over the country as well as some international squads.
San Diego Surf Soccer, one of the city’s largest clubs that holds practices at the Polo Club, generated three tournament champions: the under-10 girls White, the under-11 girls White and the girls under-14 White team.
The under-10 San Diego Surf had one tie and four wins, including two shutouts. It won the championship 2-1 against the Carlsbad Lightning.
The under-11 girls White cruised to their championship, going undefeated and forcing four shutouts. They won the Surf Cup crown with a 6-5 victory over the South Bay Force.
The under-14 girls, San Diego Surf White, had a strong showing leading up to the final, where they took down the Mountain View/Los Altos Lightning. These Surf girls are ranked No. 1 in the country.
In tough competition, the four teams representing Carmel Valley and Rancho Santa Fe performed well.
Carmel Valley Manchester under-11 boys finished with two ties and a win over the Crossfire from Washington state.
The Rancho Santa Fe Attack Green under-13 boys finished with 1-1-1, with a win over the Dallas Texans.
The Carmel Valley Manchester boys under-13 team, ranked fourth in Southern California, beat the Universidad Pumas from Mexico, tied a Canadian team but lost to a team from Hawaii.
The Carmel Valley Manchester girls under-13 team, ranked ninth in the nation, smashed the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0, tied a Palm Beach team but lost to the eventual champions, the Arsenal who are ranked No. 1 in the nation.
The Surf Cup continues this weekend for under-16, under-17 and under-19 teams.
