Gulf of California quake rattles region
A series of earthquakes centered in the Gulf of California rattled parts of San Diego today but caused no known damage or injuries.
The temblors struck several hundred miles southeast of Tijuana at 10:55 a.m., 10:59 a.m., 11:33 a.m. and 11:40 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The strength of the shakers was measured at magnitude 5.8, 6.9, 5.0 and 5.9, respectively, the federal agency reported.
Though some people in downtown San Diego felt buildings tremble and sway a bit, the city Fire-Rescue Department received no reports of injuries or structural damage due to the quakes, said Maurice Luque, a spokesman for the agency.
The county Sheriff’s Department also received no 911 calls related to problems resulting from to the temblors.
