Meteore soars to victory in the La Jolla Handicap

Meteore, right, streaks to the wire in the Grade II La Jolla Handicap at Del Mar on Aug. 15. The 3-year-old colt trailed for most of the race, but hurtled past horses in the homestretch and won the 1 1/16-mile event by 1 1/2 lengths over Rendezvous. Gretsky was third, while the previously unbeaten I’ll Show Them, second, settled for fourth. The time on the firm turf course was 1:40.82.

Also at Del Mar that day, ‘The Real Housewives of Orange County’ stars Alexis Bellino, who is new to the show, and Gretchen Rossi stood in the winner’s circle for the trophy presentation following the seventh race.
