Summer’s last hurrah for Del Mar Union School District campers

Del Mar Union School District summer camp ended last Wednesday with a carnival of attractions made by staff members. Children got temporary tattoos and took on games including a football toss, a Twinkie walk, beanbag toss and dunk shower. Instead of a dunk tank, children aimed to soak a staffer with a spray of water to the face.

Multitenant water use regulations need review

I write this in hopes of initiating local legislation that would require landlords to install separate water meters if they choose to bill multi-unit tenants for water usage.

Support for SD wastewater efforts

Over the past several years the Metro Wastewater Joint Powers Authority and Metro Commission, comprised of the cities of Chula Vista, Coronado, Del Mar, El Cajon, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City, and Poway, Padre Dam Municipal Water District, Otay Water District and the County of San Diego, all agencies whose wastewater is treated by the City of San Diego, have followed, evaluated and supported the city in its efforts to obtain a modified permit for the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Cafe hosts celebration

The new owners of Cafe Secret unveiled their menu on Aug. 12 with an evening of wine tasting from Maddalena Vineyard and tapas. The new owners/operators, Bratzo and Daniella Basagoita, shown Aug. 12, bring a South American flavor to Cafe Secret’s menu as they infuse their Peruvian culture into their cooking. The sidewalk cafe is connected to the Secret Garden Inn, a four-room bed and breakfast. The cafe is at 1140 Camino del Mar in Del Mar.

Organization brings joy through music

Resounding Joy, a therapeutic music organization, held a Junior Joy Givers camp last week to teach children the art of healing through music. The two-day camp concluded with a trip to entertain residents at Emeritus Senior Living facility in Carmel Valley. This summer’s Junior Joy Givers included Stella Roth, Nicholas Hinderling, Jordan Spinks, Grace Lee, Abigail Mulmat and Naomi Smitham.

Players of all shapes and sizes converged on La Jolla’s Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center on Saturday morning with pro hoops aspirations, looking to latch onto San Diego’s new American Basketball Association (ABA) team, the San Diego Surf.

First, Rosanne Fairchild and event chair Melanie Cruz Walsh await guests at Sunday’s ‘Hats and Flats’ event hosted by The Country Friends. Held at the San Diego Polo Grounds where guests took in the afternoon matches, the event is a major fundraiser that benefits charities in the region. For more photos, click here.
