Group holds Halloween Carnival

The Solana Beach Halloween Carnival was complete fun with carnival rides, giant slides, raffle prizes, recreational booths, a silent auction, food and refreshments. It was a benefit put on by the Solana Beach Foundation for the city’s public elementary schools.

LJ Writers Conference covers craft, industry, marketing

The Ninth Annual La Jolla Writers Conference, one of the country’s top such events, will be held Nov. 6-8 at Paradise Point Resort & Spa in San Diego. This year’s keynote speakers include New York Times bestselling authors Jane Green, Lisa Gardner and Eileen Goudge. The three-day program features lectures and workshops from more than 20 faculty members, all of whom participate with the intent of sharing their experience to help others.

Canyon Crest Academy raffle hits the road

The Canyon Crest Academy Foundation recently kicked off its BMW Raven Raffle to raise money to support the school’s academic, arts and athletics programs. Entrants can win a 2010 BMW or $25,000 cash.

Drug take-back program a ‘success’

A prescription drug take back day on Saturday was labeled “a great success” by a spokeswoman for County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price, who co-sponsored the event as part of the recently announced Oxycontin Task Force effort.

RSF Historical Society bell stolen

Over the weekend, someone stole one of the Rancho Santa Fe Historical Society bells. The bell, which was located on La Orilla and El Camino Real, marks the historic El Camino Real route that linked the California missions.

Group calls for change to freeway plans

The Interstate 5/Highway 56 steering committee process may be coming to a close next week as Caltrans prepares its Environmental Impact Report. But issues surrounding the interchange project continue to heat up. Representatives from Pacific Highlands Ranch are calling to get disconnected from the 5/56 connector project so they might be able to grow as a community.
