Pacific Ridge building green

Pacific Ridge School, a Carlsbad independent middle and high school that draws many students from Del Mar and Carmel Valley, broke ground on its new energy-efficient campus on Oct. 24.

The $20 million project will reduce energy consumption by 42 percent and includes onsite solar power, natural lighting for 90 percent of classroom space, passive ventilation and reduction of landscape irrigation by 50 percent. The campus will also have a synthetic athletic field.
