Carlsbad, La Costa homes lose power

Some 2,800 homes and businesses in the Carlsbad and La Costa areas were still without power Monday morning following an outage that blacked out 21,000 customers at its peak, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.

The outage was reported around 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Power was restored to about half the 21,000 affected addresses shortly after midnight and several thousand others had power restored throughout the night, SDG&E spokeswoman Sabra Moallem said.

The utility estimated power would be restored to the remaining 2,876 homes and businesses by 9 a.m.

The cause of the outage was under investigation.
