Canyon Crest Academy wins Coronado Islanders Tournament Gold

The Canyon Crest Academy boys varsity soccer team, coached by Tom Lockhart and Mike Hoyt, found a great way to start the winter sports season: Winning the Gold Division of the Islanders Tournament. Only a 2-2 tie against Brawley High kept their record from perfection, as they beat Preuss and Ramona High schools on their way to the finals against University City High School. That turned out to be a high-scoring 5-3 matchup, with two goals each by forwards James Stafford and Brian Doyle, and one by Defender Kyle Fleming. Eight saves by goalkeeper Greg Sander helped put the game away. For now, the huge trophy shown in the photograph will dominate the trophy case at this still-young Carmel Valley high school.
