Changes come to Del Mar Plaza

New additions, offerings and changeovers are happening at the Del Mar Plaza.

Starting in January, outdoor fitness classes will be offered Monday through Friday on the Plaza’s Ocean View Deck.

Boot Camp, Zumba Dance and Cardio Sculpt classes will be offered daily. There are also plans for yoga, Pilates, nutrition and cooking classes later in the year. Taught by ACE certified instructor and nutritionist Kelley Webster, the classes require pre-registration to keep the class size down. To register, contact Webster at (858) 692-1814 or synergizeme@yahoo.com.

Sunset Yogurt & Ice Cream is expected to open in the spring. The family-owned, full-service restaurant will offer frozen yogurt, ice cream, gelato, smoothies, specialty coffees and teas, as well as ice cream cakes.

The Sunset Grill and Rumi Cafe recently closed, but the Del Mar Village Association says several well-known fine-dining establishments are interested in the ocean-view space and are currently in talks with Plaza management. Another, unnamed family style restaurant, is also in the midst of negotiations for space in the Plaza.

Live music at the Plaza will continue in 2010, the DMVA says. For the past six months the Plaza has offered free live musical entertainment every Friday night on its ocean-view deck in addition to a recent free youth performance of the Nutcracker. Both offerings were well attended. For more information, visit www.delmarplaza.com.
