MTS to offer free rides on Route 880 in February

Rides on an express bus route in the North County that connects 4S Ranch, Rancho Bernardo, Mira Mesa and Poway to Sorrento Valley and the Golden Triangle will be free for two weeks next month.

In an effort to improve ridership, the Metropolitan Transit System’s Route 880 will be free from Feb. 16 to Feb. 26, according to San Diego City Councilwoman Sherri Lightner, who sits on the MTS board.

She was joined by San Diego City Council members Todd Gloria and Carl DeMaio and Poway Councilman Jim Cunningham at a news conference in Sorrento Mesa to encourage residents to use the bus route.

“Our goal today is to encourage potential riders to try out this route
and consider public transit as a great option for their daily commute,” Lightner said. “We need to continue to promote more use of transit throughout the region, and especially along the congested I-15 corridor.”

Route 880, which is subsidized by developer mitigation fees from 4S Ranch, has three morning rush hour trips and three in the evening. The cost is $5 each way.
