Dr. Seuss 106th birthday celebration planned at UCSD

A celebration will be held at UC San Diego next week to mark what would have been the late Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel’s 106th birthday.

Tuesday’s party will include a giant inflatable “Cat in the Hat” and a
performance by The Teeny Tiny Pit Orchestra, about 2,000 pieces of cake and punch will be served to mark the occasion, according to UCSD.

Audrey Geisel, the author’s widow, is scheduled to attend the festivities, university officials said.

Geisel, who died in La Jolla in 1991, published more than five dozen children’s books, including “The Cat in the Hat,” “Green Eggs and Ham” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

UCSD’s Geisel Library is named after the author and his wife. The library received Geisel’s original drawings, art, notebooks and other memorabilia following his death.
