San Diego Surf returns from China
The Surf returned last week after a whirlwind tour with two games against a very large, tough Beijing team in Chengdu, China. After being routed in the first game, the Surf recovered in the second half of the second game, although a little late to pull off an upset.
The Beijing Aoshen Olympians were led by 6-foot-9 guard, Sun Yue, who spent last season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He led all scorers in the second game with 42 points.
The Surf came alive in the second half with stepped-up defense. Unfortunately, they were only able to dress eight players on a 10-day invitation notice to participate in the Chengdu Invitational Games to benefit the 2008 victims where 80,000 died.
The team, the coach, athletic trainer and media coordinator all got a chance to visit the famous panda reserve, Great Wall, the 2008 Olympic Bird’s Nest Arena, Tiananmen Square, Imperial Palace and a silk factory.
