Comedy clubs to perform

Artists Taking Action, J*Company Youth Theatre’s teen community service organization, will team up with Canyon Crest Academy’s Improv Club and Team Green Team for a show to raise funds enabling students of the Monarch School to attend future J*Company shows.

This family-friendly show will be held at 6 p.m. April 11 at the Garfield Theatre, Lawrence Family JCC, Jacobs Family Campus, 4126 Executive Drive, La Jolla. Tickets are $10 at the door, (858) 362-1348 or

CCA’s Improv Club, in its fourth year, boasts some 30 members who perform a fast-paced improvisational comedy show played with two teams against each other in the style of a sports match. They will square off against Team Green Team, a group of teens representing San Diego high schools including Bishop’s, Francis Parker, Serra and others.

Team Green Team is part of the National Comedy Theater High School League which trains high school students across San Diego in improvisational skills and theory. A professional NCT coach works with students, enabling them to put on a hysterical, highly interactive performance based on audience suggestions.

CCA’s Improv Club has used its popular show for several fundraisers this year, including sold-out shows for the girls’ soccer team and CCA’s Envision Arts Program.

Founded in 1988, the Monarch School is dedicated to providing homeless and at-risk children with an accredited education while caring for their basic needs. Today, more than 160 kids between the ages of 4 and 19 are enrolled at the Monarch School.
