Green Chamber to launch at Belly Up

St. Patrick’s Day may have come and gone, but the Belly Up Tavern will once again be green on April 13 — not with those touting green beer, but instead green business practices.

The Belly Up will be the site of the Green Chamber of San Diego County’s launch party, which will feature networking opportunities, live music and informational sessions on environmentally friendly business practices.

Based in Solana Beach, the Green Chamber has worked the past several months to engage businesses throughout San Diego County. So far, it has enlisted 75 members as part of what Chief Executive Officer Peter Zahn calls its “soft launch.” Now comes the major push.

“The idea is really to have the kickoff event be the starting point in terms of our membership drive,” Zahn said, adding that visits to various business events in the meantime has helped get the word out. “This has given us a chance to really get in touch with various communities and constituents in the county.”

The event, being called “Green is Everyone’s Business,” will include a presentation from Greg Koch, CEO of Escondido-based Stone Brewing Co. Zahn said the brewery is known for its environmentally responsible business practices. Koch’s talk will be one of many ways attendees can learn more about getting involved in what Zahn says are increasingly lucrative green business operations.

“I think what we’re going to see is a pretty exciting mix of green companies and other businesses and individuals who just want to become a part of it,” he said.

The Green Chamber launch begins at 5 p.m. April 13, at the Belly Up Tavern. For more information, visit or call 436-7117.
