Smurfs capture U12 championship

After finishing first during regular season play, the Blue Smurfs went on to win the North Shore Girls Softball League 12U division championship in a final game against the Candie Canes, with a score of 14-13.

The Smurfs used a combination of walks, six hits, dominating pitching when they needed it, and timely defensive stops in the seven-inning game. Pitchers Mikaila Reyes, Madeline Gotta and Monique Gonzales combined on a four-hitter, with Reyes pitching four no-hit innings.

Fielding highlights included two ground ball assists at second base from Barbara Benowitz, a quick throw from catcher Tracy Chin to stop a runner stealing second base, and a pop-up catch at first base by Lexi Odenweller to end the game.

At the plate, Camryn Miyahira, Victoria Sclar, Mary Wobler, Livi Scott, and Sam Larson were among Smurfs who both scored and drove in runs.
