Torrey Pines scholars celebrated at awards night

Seventy Torrey Pines High School seniors who tallied scholarships totaling $46,000 were honored on May 26 at the annual ceremony hosted by the Dollars for Scholars Committee at Solana Pacific Elementary School.

Laura Farjood, president of Torrey Pines Dollars for Scholars, welcomed the students and was followed by Alexa Goldman, a 2009 DFS recipient, who gave some advice to the 2010 graduating seniors.

TPHS Principal Brett Killeen presented Principal’s Scholarships to Patrick Galvin, Matt Spelich and Junia Zhang.

Adrianna Peynado-Vidana and Sasha Shkolnik were honored by Music Booster President Joan Elliott with the TPHS Music Booster Scholarships.

The 2010 DFS Alumni Scholarship Fund awards were given to Michelle Chen, Clint Hall, Courtney Koehler, Helen Liang, Julianne Manalo and Guhan Shastri. The DFS Cardinal and Gold award went to Aaron Windmiller.

Twenty-four students received Dollars for Scholars Merit Scholarships:

Laura Checkley, Jacqueline Coden, Jacob Cole, Stephanie Cowles, Kristen Crawford, Illya Gaidorov, Ramferis Izazaga, Sunny Jeon, Chris Kwon, Matt Lavis, Brenda Lee, Ashley Lo, Emilie Mandic, Joshua Netter, Joo Young Park, Samvit Ramadurgam, Jessica Saunders, Colin Scott, Lynn Truong, Christopher Wu, Ling Yeung, Joseph Yu, Kelu Zhao and Alex Zuniga.

The Dan & Julie Sherlock/Wells Fargo Scholarship was given to Armaan Farjood, and the Del Mar/Solana Beach Optimist Club Scholarship was granted to Rana Khan. The Domino’s Bright Future Award, given out by franchise owner Mike Brown, was conferred to Chanelle Doucette.

Longtime DFS supporters Gary and Jerri Ann Jacobs awarded their annual scholarship to Kevin Qian.

Julia Colley and Zack Zehner received scholarships from Hansen’s Surfboards, and the Madsen Five Family Scholarships was awarded to Claudette Enriquez and Lawrence Wang.

Each year, Pardee Homes honors outstanding students that reside in Carmel Valley and this year recipients were Kevin Hsu, David Lin, Chang Liu, Larisa Owcharuk, Rose Wang and Rodger Yuan.

The North Shore Softball League honored past participant, Kelley Burr.

The Rancho Santa Fe Rotary Scholarship was awarded to Taylor Rippy by Patrick Galvin.

The Yanofsky Family Science Scholarship was awarded to Concepcion Espana.

The Weiner family presented the Adam Wiener Memorial Scholarship to Parker Vail.

The Barbara Schneiderman Memorial Scholarship honored Michael Dashefsky and Aarthi Reddy.

John and Susan Pfleeger presented The Charles and Berneice Uligian Memorial Scholarship to senior Daniela Conde, and the E.H. Mead Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Caroline Yu by Carol Mead.

The Friends of Raul Escamillo Memorial Scholarships, in honor of this outstanding assistant principal, were given to athletes Mollie Friedlander, Julia Heunis, Dorit Stein and Nicole Wypychowski.

The John Pinto Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Diane Jeon.

Jung Hoon Liu, Harding Luan, Prabhav Jain and Amanda Yuan received the Manley Nolen Memorial Scholarships, and the Ross Family Memorial Scholarship was presented to Linda Carter and Maxwell Raymond.

Eric Hayes accepted the Sean Alexander Canepa Memorial Scholarship from Bill Canepa.
