Scripps Health among top 10 in national survey

Thomson Reuters on Monday named San Diego’s Scripps Health among the top 10 health systems in the country.

Researchers from Thomson Reuters, the world’s largest business information supplier, analyzed the quality and efficiency of 255 health systems nationwide in eight categories — mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, 30-day mortality rate, 30-day readmission rate, adherence to clinical standards of care and a patient survey.

Compared with the poorest performers, the best-performing hospitals had a 16 percent lower mortality, 18 percent fewer medical complications and 16 percent fewer patient safety incidents, according to Thomson Reuters.

Scripps Health was the only California health system on the Thomson Reuters list.

“This recognition by Thomson Reuters validates all our hard work and efforts as a health care system,” said Chris Van Gorder, chief executive officer of Scripps Health. “The congratulations should go to our physicians, nurses, other clinicians and all those in our system who support patient care as we care for all our patients — one patient and one family at a time.”

Topping the Thomson Reuters’ list of top 10 health systems in the U.S. were Advocate Health Care, Oak Brook, Ill.; followed by Banner Health, Phoenix, Ariz.; Catholic Healthcare Partners, Cincinnati, Ohio; Fairview Health Services, Minneapolis, Minn.; Kettering Health Network, Dayton, Ohio; Mayo Foundation, Rochester, Minn.; OhioHealth, Columbus, Ohio; Scripps Health; Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and University Hospitals, Cleveland, Ohio.
