Surf industry to honor Mraz at Liquid Nation Ball

Two-time Grammy Award winner Jason Mraz will be honored as the 2010 Surf Industry Manufacturers Association “Humanitarian of the Year” at the seventh annual Liquid Nation Ball, set for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the La Jolla oceanfront home of Fernando Aguerre, where one of the best private surfboard collections in the world will be on display.

With a goal of raising $250,000, the event will benefit 13 surf-related humanitarian organizations.

“The SIMA Humanitarian Fund is immensely proud to honor Jason Mraz, who has a large heart for humanitarian causes and embodies the charitable spirit of Liquid Nation Ball,” said Aguerre, ball chairman and co-founder.

Of the honor, Mraz said: “The surf community has drawn a circle in the sand and asked me to step inside of it. In this case, the circle is reserved for humanitarians and it delights me to be seen as such a person. From where I stand within that circle of stoke, I’m inspired to work harder and be of greater service. ”

The ball will include dancing, live music, food, an open bar, and a live auction. Tickets, $300 per person, are available on a first-come, first-served basis at www.liquid-

Mraz said he is one of the thousands of people motivated by Jesse Billauer of Life Rolls On, an organization that uses the sport of surfing to improve the quality of life of young people affected by spinal cord injury. As an avid supporter, he has dedicated himself to promoting the organization by garnering public support, serving as an honorary chairman for events, and performing benefit concerts.

In addition to his efforts for Life Rolls On, Mraz’s humanitarian work also extends to Save The Music, Musicares, Free The Children, as well as his hometown arts program, SPARC.

The 2010 Liquid Nation Ball beneficiaries include Keep a Breast, Boarding for Breast Cancer, Surfer’s Healing, Jimmy Miller Foundation, AccesSurf Hawaii, Mauli Ola Foundation, Best Day Foundation, Outdoor Outreach, Stoked Mentoring, Life Rolls On, Project Wipeout, SurfAid International and the Sumba Foundation.
