Carmel Creek School welcomed BMX Wheels of Freestyle riders to the campus recently for Red Ribbon Week. The professionals performed stunts for the students and took the time to mingle.

New district office property looks promising for Del Mar school district

Could the search for a new district office for the Del Mar Union School District be nearing a close? A very positive update from district superintendent Jim Peabody at the Oct. 27 board meeting showed that the district has nailed down its exact square footage needs and has successfully applied those needs to a Carmel Valley office building it is about to enter a due diligence escrow on.

Parents of Del Mar Heights Elementary and the Del Mar School Education Foundation (DMSEF) are sponsoring a unique fundraiser. The event, “Jazzed About Our Kids,” celebrates the children’s future and promises to be a fun-filled night. Musical jazz group Fattburger is the evening’s featured entertainment with emcee NBC anchor Susan Taylor.

Torrey Hills Board approves landscape restoration project

A “big parcel of dirt” in the Torrey Hills neighborhood is about to get a new look. The Torrey Hills Community Planning Board approved plans on Oct. 19 for a landscape restoration of the property off East Ocean Air Drive and Corte Mar Asombrosa.

Bob Goodman, who has a Ph.D. in colonial American history, always had a hankering to become a publisher. He had a proven talent for research and things technical, but it wasn’t until he had trouble understanding a food label in the late 1980s that he became energized into the publishing business.

Conner’s Cause for Children held “A Tuscan Affair” Oct. 16 at the clubhouse on the lake in Fairbanks Ranch. Proceeds from the annual event benefit Conner’s Cause, the only non-profit organization in the San Diego region that offers direct family assistance for out-of-pocket expenses relating to any and all life- threatening illnesses associated with children.
