Solana Beach: Del Sol Lions Club to dedicate audible signal crosswalk
The community is invited to join the Solana Beach Mayor Lesa Heebner, and the Solana Beach City Council as they join with members of the Del Sol Lions Club and the community in a brief dedication ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m., to commemorate the new audible crosswalk signal donated by the Del Sol Lions Club at the intersection of Lomas Santa Fe Drive and the Vons Four Flags Shopping Center entrance in Solana Beach.
The Del Sol Lions Club was established on Feb. 15, 2010, and currently has 68 members who are dedicating themselves in service to meet the unmet needs of Del Mar, Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe, Carmel Valley and parts of the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. Lions Clubs International was founded in 1917 and at one of its first national convention’s was challenged by Helen Keller to become “Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness.”
The Del Sol Lions Club raised funds at the 2010 Fiesta Del Sol and its board of directors decided to fund an audible crosswalk signal in Solana Beach, which is used so that a visually impaired pedestrian can safely cross a busy street. The city of Solana Beach chose this location and accepted an unsolicited financial donation from the Del Sol Lions Club for the purchase and installation of this audible crosswalk signal.
Plaques will be mounted on each traffic signal pole on the south and north side of the pedestrian walkway across Lomas Santa Fe at the entrance into the Vons Shopping Center. These plaques are (3”X5”) and will have the following wording on it: “AUDIBLE SIGNAL DONATED BY DEL SOL LIONS CLUB.” The city will mount the plaques just above the “push button” on the signal poles before the dedication ceremony at the South East corner of this intersection.
Light refreshments will be provided by the Del Sol Lions Club.
