The Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce has raised money for the Solana Beach lifeguards so they can purchase a Landeez all-terrain wheelchair.

Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Frida Silveira and President David Carroll presented the $3,000 check to the city during the Solana Beach City Council’s Feb. 9 meeting.

The new all-terrain wheelchair will replace another one that has been out of service for about six months now. On average, these wheelchairs are used about half a dozen times a year.

“That may not sound like a lot of use, but [this wheelchair] does provide an important service to our residents and visitors,” said Solana Beach Lifeguard Captain Craig Miller, who was there to accept the check.

“It’s a rare opportunity for any organization to be able to give back in this day and age, and we’re delighted to do just that,” Carroll said on behalf of the chamber, which has been raising funds for the all-terrain wheelchair since October. “This is our chance to pay back in a small measure for all [the city] has done on behalf of the chamber. Our chamber members and our ambassadors have worked diligently to acquire these funds, and we wish to thank everyone who has participated in this program. It was indeed a community effort.”
