Carmel Valley town hall meeting to be held by San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio

By Karen Billing
San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio will visit Carmel Valley for a town hall meeting on Wednesday, March 2, at 6 p.m. at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center.

DeMaio will answer questions and hear feedback on his “Roadmap to Recovery” plan.
The roadmap is a five-year fiscal recovery package that saves more than a billion dollars and balances the budget without cutting any city services.

“It puts more money into things like fire protection and road repairs,” he said of the plan that proposes reforming the pension system and opening city services up to competitive bidding.
DeMaio’s plan comes at a time when the city is facing down an anticipated $72 million deficit in fiscal year 2012.
“I came up with the plan after talking with a lot of national experts, city employees and listening to the public,” DeMaio said. “The public gives us so many cost-saving ideas.”

Knowing the value of public input, DeMaio has taken the roadmap to all of the San Diego communities, seeking feedback and more ideas. He wants to hear about local problems and issues: roads that need repair, suggestions for library and park services.
Additionally, he will need the public to keep the plan moving,

“It’s really important that the public keeps pressure on the mayor and city council to act,” DeMaio said. “There’s been too much delay on implementing changes and the only way to get action from the city is if the public demands it.”
