Solana Beach Councilman Dave Roberts appointed to state Biodiversity Council

Solana Beach Councilman Dave Roberts has been appointed to the California Biodiversity Council (CBC). The council was formed in 1991 to improve coordination and cooperation between the various resource management and environmental protection organizations at federal, state and local levels. Strengthening ties between local communities and governments has been a focus of the council by way of promoting strong local leadership and encouraging comprehensive solutions to regional issues.

The council began with 20 original members, and has expanded over the years to its current 42 member board. The council consists of 20 state agencies, 12 federal agencies, and 10 local governments. It is chaired by John Laird, California secretary for resources, and Jim Abbott, Bureau of Land Management acting state director. Councilman Roberts will be filling the SANDAG seat on this board, replacing former Del Mar Mayor Crystal Crawford.

“It is critical that all levels of government and stakeholders work together to preserve our fragile natural resources throughout California,” said Roberts on learning of his appointment. “I truly appreciate this opportunity to take my environmental sustainability interests to the next level and serve SANDAG and all the citizens of San Diego County on this council to help in preservation efforts so that our kids and grandkids can continue to enjoy California’s natural resources for generations to come.”

Roberts also serves on the city of Solana Beach Environmental Sustainability Council Ad Hoc Committee with Mayor Lesa Heebner and represents the San Diego Division of the League of California Cities’ on the Environmental Quality Policy Committee.
