But the Democrats ALWAYS LOSE. The Democrats are the good cop to the Republicans bad cop. They've been losing policy battles consistently for 30 years, always after a noble and well-publicized fight. Beginning to look a bit suspicious.
If you were Big Biz, and you decided you were going to take over the country and needed to get into politics, would you stop at buying just one party? Hell, there are only two, and they are cheap! An entire election cycle, including all candidates for all parties in all national offices, including the president, spent around $2 billion before Citizens United, maybe, what, twice that now. Exxon made some $45 billion profit last year. If it was just Exxon, that would be a hell of an investment. But with all corporations chipping in, it's peanuts.
What would have then? A government exactly like what we have now, where big business always wins and the public good always loses.

Well said Gordon! But in my experience those who say "there's no difference between the parties" are simply making lame excuses for their own willful ignorance and political apathy. They are equally prone to such cop-outs as "you can't fight City Hall," "my vote doesn't count," and "they're all corrupt." These people have never contacted their representatives, usually can't even name them, and they complain about how long the ballot is...all while watching an average of 35 hours per week of television. Some of our nation's founders doubted ordinary people could be trusted to responsibly participate in governance. Today's slackers, who hide behind empty cliches, lend credibility to those fears.
