Solana Beach chamber breakfast to focus on law enforcement, business community

The Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce will host a networking breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express, 621 S. Highway 101 in Solana Beach. The event will introduce attendees to the newly formed COPPS (Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving) unit.

Stressing the prevention of crime before it occurs, COPPS is an integral part of improving the “quality of life” in our community. Using a policing philosophy that promotes and supports organizational strategies, it unites law enforcement with the community, creating partnerships.

Examples of areas that can be addressed in this working relationship are: suspicious activity in, around or near a business; neighborhood drug activity; transients; theft and embezzlement. Business owners will have the opportunity to speak directly with a deputy instead of a dispatcher when calling in a report.

Speakers Deputy Matt Clay and Deputy Mike Benavidez will be sharing their expertise on COPPS and its incorporation into the business community. The format includes time for an open discussion.

Among the topics to be covered are: establishing a business partnership with COPPS; engaging business owners in helping the community; using email to contact COPPS and securing your business against crime.

Open to the public, the chamber breakfast series offers an intimate forum for attendees to build community relationships, network with business professionals and discuss current issues.

Advanced registration is recommended. Admission is $5 for Members; $10 for Nonmembers and includes breakfast.

If you would like to attend the event on Thursday, Sept. 15, 7:30 to 9:30 a.m, please contact Frida Silveira, Solana Beach Chamber executive director, (858) 755 4775 or info@solanabeachchamber.com.
