It is easy to take for granted all that we have in Del Mar: a beautiful Seagrove Park, the delightful Powerhouse and its expansive lawn, pristine beaches and much, much more.

At this time of year, though, it is important to take pause and thank those who make it all happen and who really operate behind the scenes. Without these guys, the city wouldn’t operate.

Besides picking up over 220 trash cans around town, cleaning the public restrooms, making sure the mitt dispensers are full, the street ends clean, and keeping the Powerhouse and parks spotless, they are there to help make all the fun stuff happen too. They work behind the scenes to set up the Twilight Concerts, First Thursdays, Easter Egg hunts, July 4 parades, and all the community activities which look effortless to do. The recent Halloween Pet Parade couldn’t have happened without them. So whether it is a senior exercise class in the Powerhouse or bridge class, they are there to help. The Del Mar Foundation and other non-profits in town couldn’t do without them.

“We love working at the beach with all the action,” they replied in unison when asked their favorite part of their job. “The Twilight Concerts are probably our favorite set-up. It’s a happy time.” When asked about the hardest part of their job, they went silent and replied, “there isn’t any really.”

The City of Del Mar and the Del Mar Foundation are lucky to have this great team. Thank you Community Services from all of us who benefit. You are the greatest!
