Mr Cox,

Solar will not successfully compete or produce enough energy for our economy if we continue to put price barriers up for renwables -and continue to subsidize fossil fuel. SDGE has done just that with this rate proposal, they have slowed down our desperate need to transform into a clean tech economy, and told the world that business-as-usual will continue to line their pockets - at our expense, and peril.

At one point, the Internet carried less than 1% of data communications traffic. Every technology undergoes a short or long incubation period ... it then succeeds or fails. We really have a moral choice: do we recognize the injustice to future generations by increasing dependence on fossil fuels with the attendant consequences to our economy, environment, and security ... or, not? It appears that Mr. Cox, despite being very informed about these consequences, seeks a utility that will tax self-generation for the dual purpose of impeding Distributed Generation and avoiding further competition ... to what end? The maintenance of Business As Usual to the detriment of future generations.

The author of this letter to the editor is dead wrong. The leadership of SD Gas and Electric are absolutely correct. Solar and wind according the US Department of Energy contribute just 2/1000s of one one percent to the total energy consumption of the US each day. They simply cannot get us to point of producing scalable amounts of energy. Just this weekend Google pulled out of its big solar commitment. Solar has a future with PV in limited used but it is not capable of producing sufficient energy. That does not mean we don't continue R&D but the leadership of SD Gas and Electric should be complemented to counter the conventional wisdom of those who contend solar can be a big producer of energy now. Some day but not now with current technology. Sorry.
